PDO Threads Used for Years in Surgery Have Made Their Way to the
Cosmetic Scene and Are Inspiring Rave Reviews for Non-Surgical Face and Brow Lifts

What is a PDO Thread Lift?

Tiny resorbable threads used for sutures in Cardiothoracic Surgery, Urology, Gynecology and also Ophthalmology have found another important use: Doctors have discovered they can cosmetically lift the skin on the face and body, through an injection technique known as the “PDO Thread Lift”.

These special threads that have become increasingly used in many countries around the world including the USA, Europe,Brazil, Russia and Japan. The technique involves placing a small resorbable thread under the skin, similar to those used in dissolvable stitches, which lifts the tissues up to achieve a visibly rested and more youthful state.

The PDO Threads are comprised of Polydioxanone, a material that is designed with specific patterns that create a supportive scaffolding effect through reinforcing tissues that have lost their structure due to natural aging. As the skin ages, collagen and elastin diminish, which then in turn causes it to turn downward and triangulate, yielding an aged and sullen appearance. Collagen is the main structural fibrous protein that synergistically keeps the skin in place. The PDO Thread Lift Treatment addresses subsequent collagen loss by manually lifting the skin with small threads. Along with this it also has a lifting effect achieved through the expert injection technique that stimulates further collagen production.

Some report that they have often looked tired when they’re not, and that the PDO Thread Lift has greatly improved the overall appearance of their face. After trying the injection treatment one Portland, Oregon patient commented on her result with Dr. Anil Rajani: “I saw such a dramatic change, you know I spend all of this money on expensive night cream, but none of the creams could do this. I thought I would have to have a facelift, because of my jowls but I’m really impressed with the PDO Thread Lift. It’s like I have discovered Botox or fillers again.”

With all of the buzz and excitement surrounding the possibilities with the PDO Thread Lift breakthrough, one has to ask what side effects and potential costs are involved?

While no procedure is without risk, some patients have reported minor side effects such as swelling, bruising, tenderness and numbness. In most instances these side effects dissipated after injection. The experience of the injector is a key factor in risk and treatment outcome. The treatment requires additional training, natural skill and is best performed with a seasoned injector tempered by experience and training. The cost is determined on an individual basis in most clinics, ranging from approximately three hundred dollars to fifteen hundred dollars, and is not covered by health insurance as with most other elective cosmetic procedures. The results can last anywhere from eighteen to twenty four months, depending upon the degree of laxity in the skin. The instant lift created with the Thread Lift can be the perfect solution to looking your best for an important event, or as part of an anti-aging regime to stay looking refreshed. The PDO Thread Lift comes as an exciting development in the Medical Aesthetic industry, as it makes it now possible to substantially lift the lower face region, where the loss of collagen is commonly apparent and dermal fillers are not usually placed, all without surgery. The treatment is increasingly being used on larger areas of the body including the breasts, buttocks and abdomen which will potentially offer many options for patients desiring various body lifting procedures, without having to go under the knife.
